Dr. Sifan Xu is an assistant professor at the School of Advertising and Public Relations. He uses both qualitative and quantitative methods to conduct research regarding crisis communication and organization-public relationships. Specifically, he examines crisis communication in the community contexts and the role of individuals’ social identities in influencing their perceived positions and relationships with different types of organizations. His most recent work appears in the Chinese Journal of Communication, Public Relations Review, and the Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management. He has coauthored two book chapters and regularly presents his research in NCA, AEJMC, and ICA. In the past he held three single-authored top papers from NCA and ICA.

New to Knoxville, Dr. Xu likes to be active and explore what East Tennessee and Knoxville have to offer. He cannot wait to see the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains in the fall.
