The master’s degree in communication and information prepares students for professional and management positions in communication organizations. It also provides excellent preparation for those who plan to pursue related doctoral studies. Students choose an emphasis in advertising, communication studies, journalism and electronic media, or public relations. Specific courses to be taken are determined in consultation with the student’s faculty adviser.
Students may choose either a project or a thesis as the capstone to their programs. Students who plan to work in communication organizations and related career fields will find the master’s program prepares them with both tactical skills and managerial training. These students are strongly encouraged to pursue the project option. Students who anticipate entering a doctoral program will find that the master’s program is good preparation for additional graduate studies. These students are strongly encouraged to pursue the thesis option.
