ADPR Scholarships & Awards

 The School of Advertising and Public Relations has department-wide scholarships available to its majors. These scholarships typically range from $500-$3,500 and are awarded in the spring term for the following fall term. ADPR also awards funds year-round to students doing professional development or to students in financial need.

Scholarships are not available for non-majors.

 

Advertising Scholarships Available

Bohan Advertising Endowment Scholarship Undergraduate This scholarship is intended for students who have financial need and have demonstrated good academic performance.
Carol Poston Scholarship Fund Undergraduate Students who have demonstrated successful academic performance and past recipients of this award will be given preference.
Jody Chambers Scholarship Junior / Senior Students who have demonstrated successful academic performance, students with financial need and past recipients of this award will be given preference.
Charles Tombras Scholarship Undergraduate Preference is given to students who show interest in the creative function of advertising.  Past recipients of this award will also be given first preference.
Christopher Grabenstein Advertising Student Support Endowment Undergraduate / Graduate Students must have participated in advertising professional development trips to apply.
Ron Taylor Advertising Scholarship Junior / Senior / Graduate Students who apply for this scholarship should have demonstrated academic excellence and interest in advertising research, and/or show extreme financial hardship as well as outstanding professional promise.  Preference is given to past recipients of the award.
Sellers Advertising Endowment Scholarship Undergraduate / Graduate Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic performance.  Financial need may also be considered.
Ricard Joel Scholarship Fund Undergraduate
Charles Davis Scholarships / AdClub Scholarships Junior / Senior  Students must have a minimum 2.8 GPA. Financial need may also be considered.
Avron Spiro, Jr. Scholarship Undergraduate Students must demonstrate excellent professional potential.  Financial need may also be considered. (For Advertising and Public Relation Majors)
Conaway Advertising Fund Undergraduate / Graduate This scholarship provides support for students who participate in pre-professional activities, such as, but not limited to, national and regional competitions, department trips to advertising agencies and advertising conferences.
Advertising & PR Student Travel Fund Undergraduate This fund is dedicated to the support of students completing professional development through travel, conference registration and more.
Charlie Trombras Memorial Fund  
Maureen Taylor Graduate Graduate This fund is provided at the discretion of the Director and Scholarship committee. It is meant to provide support to graduate students for research and data gathering.
Chuck and April Jones Scholarship Undergraduate Students must demonstrate an interest in creative advertising work through one or more of the following successful completion of Advertising 250 or work in Creative Writing. Preference will be given to Juniors or Seniors focusing on the creative side of advertising.

Public Relations Scholarships

Randy and Glenda Neely Scholarship Undergraduate Outstanding academic performance. 
Karen and Frederick Bauchisbaum Endowment for Communication Excellence Junior / Senior / Graduate For pre-professional PRSSA travel support or undergraduate scholarship. The recipient must be from outside of Tennessee and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Mark A. and Janice V. McNeely Endowment Scholarship Undergraduate Preference for alum of Fulton High School in Knoxville or other graduates eligible for Tennessee Promise Scholarship.
Julian and Virginia Harriss Memorial Scholarship Fund Undergraduate Scholarship professional promise, and financial need.
Shelton Group Fellowship Fund.  Undergraduate  This fund was established to support one scholarship/internship to the Shelton Group annually.
Advertising & PR Student Travel Fund Undergraduate  This fund is dedicated to the support of students completing professional development through travel, conference registration and more.

Graduate This fund is provided at the
discretion of the Director and
scholarship committee. It is meant to provide support to graduate students for research and data gathering.
Dwayne Summar
Leadership Award
Undergraduate Applicants must demonstrate
successful academic performance. Preference will be given to rising juniors or seniors. Preference will be given to a student who shows a willingness to serve others in the UTK community. The recipient will display strong leadership and character.
Sammie Lynn Puett Fund
Undergraduate Provides student travel to the PRSSA student conference. It provides entries to the Bateman case competition. This prize is given annually to the top performing student that shows professional promise.
The Eugene and Sammie
Lynn Puett Fund
Undergraduate This award is used to benefit
students who are a member of PRSSA. Its intent is for professional development, trips, the PRSSA conference, and when appropriate, scholarship funding. This award is given annually to the top performing academic student.

Supporters

The School of Advertising and Public Relations depends on the financial contributions of its graduates and friends to advance and maintain the quality of its programs. Money to support student travel, faculty travel, and the purchase of classroom instructional equipment comes almost entirely from outside monies. In addition, generous alumni donations have established and maintain a strong program of scholarship support for undergraduates.
