UT Students attend PRSSA Diversity Conference, Elon + UNC Chapel Hill

PRSSA UNC CHAPEL HILL/ ELON

During the spring semester, The School of Advertising and Public Relations students, Elizabeth Rosenthal, Katelyn Sipple, Sarah Beth Cantrell, and Kevin Higgins attended the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Diversity in Public Relations: Engaging Culture and Change conference held by Elon University and The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

UT public relations students learned about how public relations helps diverse groups, from the LGBT community to ethnic minorities, build understanding and relationships. The students networked with PRSA professionals and other public relations students across the southeast.

Speakers included Dr. Naeemah Clark,  Holly Millet, Capstrat and Kelly Williamson, APCO Worldwide.

Elizabeth Rosenthal noted, “The most exciting parts were meeting students from various regions, discussing the differences in PR programs around the country with professors from other universities, and most importantly, getting feedback and insights from professionals in the field. These leaders took the time to discuss what is happening in the field today and to help us learn how to succeed.”

The UT Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) meets bi- weekly and provides professional development opportunities for public relations students. Professor Michael Palenchar advises the chapter and Ellen Liston is the professional advisor.
