Summer Student Spotlight, Cartter Stout

Cartter Stout

From TN to NYC – PR Student Cartter Stout Lives Her Passion in Internship During New York Fashion Week

UTK School of Advertising and Public Relations Senior, Cartter Stout, just completed the internship of a lifetime. Stout interned with BPCM in New York City and worked during New York Fashion Week.

Reflecting on the internship, Stout noted: “I was able to be familiar with various luxury beauty, fashion, lifestyle clients. After a week of so I was paired with an account executive that I was able to observe and participate in her communication with clients. The most important aspect in being paired with a specific AE was that I was able to build a relationship that I continue to maintain.”

During her spring 2016 internship, Cartter from Knoxville, TN, learned how to how to use both CisionPoint and FashionGPS to digitally organize samples, clients, editors, and events. Stout managed sample send outs, returns, and showroom merchandising as well as assisting the Womenswear PR team with publication, celebrity dressing, and stylist pulls. Through collaborating with Womenswear account executives on pitching ideas and trend sheets, she was able to create and suggest ideas that the AE would send to real clients. Cartter also had the opportunity to participate in two media press days in which she transcribed editor comments and recorded information on various collections.

When asked her public relations undergraduate courses helped her prepare for this internship, Stout said: “In my design class I refined my skills in InDesign and Photoshop through designing printed materials for a local non-profit. This skill makes me more marketable to employers as well as designing team presentations or company materials. My PR Research and PR Cases classes have taught me how to write objectively about a situation.”

Welcome back to campus Cartter!
